“I grab people’s attention using emotions. The fact that you can take someone and fully immerse them in a completely new world offers an unparalleled opportunity for us to tell stories.”

Eric Nyira, Creator of Meet the Family

“Meet The Family” is a VR experience created by choreographer, director and composer Eric Nyira. The project tests the impact that a headset-powered experience can have on emotions such as pleasure, joy, wonder and fear.

The film-meets-VR experience allows you to interact with different worlds and characters. You might find yourself flying through hoops in the air above an island or exploring secrets in a dark room. Every character has been designed to provoke specific reactions, sometimes unexpected ones. Most surprisingly, they provoke different reactions from everyone.

“There is something very primal about VR. We know that what we’re seeing isn’t actually there, but our brains and our emotions respond to it as though it is.”

The experience was created using binaural sound and real-time dynamic lights, which makes Meet the Family a very gripping and highly immersive visual and audial adventure.

“I get my references from 30 years in art, entertainment and gaming. I’m addicted to all forms of visual expressions,” says Eric. The director has won several awards across Europe for his production studio Exzeb. His latest work, Artism, was created in partnership with UNIT9 and was a FITC Best Digital Installation finalist in 2014.
