An interactive tale, directed by Vincent Morisset.
In this animated film meets picture book, you participate in the story. The project in itself explores the grammar of a new medium, using xerography, drawing on paper, ActionScript-generated animations, puppet stop-motion combined with real-time 3D mapping.
The six chapters in the story depict different aspects of human communication, such as learning a language, making small talk, expressing emotions.
As part of the creative process for BLA BLA, Morisset extensively researched interactive narrative to define a new grammar of non-linear editing. BLA BLA thus offers a new vision of communication in the wider sense, of how our natural behaviours and interactions with others play out in the world.
BLA BLA won several awards so far: the SXSW Interactive Awards Champion 2012 (Art Category), Creative Review Annual 2012, Communication Arts Interactive Annual 2012, Japan Media Arts Festival 2012 Excellent Prize (Art Category) and Festival du nouveau cinéma 2011 (Innovation Award).
BLA BLA: The Installation
The project has been adapted as an installation presented at the Rotterdam Film Festival, the Japan Media Arts Festival and a one month exhibition for kids at the Gaité Lyrique in Paris.
The installation at the Gaité Lyrique runs between 07.04.2012 – 06.05.2012.
Originally an interactive web project, the installation creates an experience in which the audience takes over directing.
